The Church of El Salvador in Seville (official name ‘La Iglesia Colegial del Divino Salvador‘) is the second biggest church in the city, after Seville Cathedral.

The Baroque church was built on the ground of an old Ibn Adabbas Mosque and later Basilica, with the remains of the mosque still visible from Patio de los Naranjos.

If you have a limited time and would like to see other churches apart from the Cathedral, this is the one you shouldn’t miss. It’s very unique due to its location, history and of course the altarpiece and other artworks of great value.

The church is located in an important central location at Plaza de Salvador, surrounded by tapas bars and restaurants. The plaza used to be home to lavish mansions, local shops and even the old hospitals and cemetery. Today, it draws crowds who come to admire the beautiful masterpiece and later snack on tapas in the nearby restaurants.

The most important feature is the altarpiece from the 18th century, behind which you will find a museum exhibiting religious artwork from the 17th century. There is a lot to see as the church is quite extensive, so give yourself at least an hour to cover everything.

The entrance is from the main square, you will be able to use an audio guide which they will give you as you get in.

I have added lots of photos from my visit below, and at the end of the article, you will find information about ticket prices & opening hours. Enjoy the virtual tour below!
