Introduction to Fuengirola Bars
As you probably already know, Fuengirola has gone through a mass development in the 50s and 60s, and much of the city is still witness to that. That sort of thing is also reflected in the selection and setting of most of the bars and establishments in the city.
Some of the oldest places are in the old town, and along the coastal promenade.
If you’re planning your night out, you’re better off heading to the old town where there is a higher concentration of bars and clubs, as those on the coastal promenade don’t stay open till late hours of the evening.
Much of the bars in the city are no flashy affair – typically a very basic looking bar, with plastic chairs on the terrace and similar selection and prices in all of them. There are quite a few British and Irish pubs too, which offer a slightly better atmosphere, comfortable seats and you also nornmally have option to watch sports on the screens.
If you’re looking for something a little more sophisticated, there are pretty bars around the main post office square (where you will also find one of my favorite places to eat out – Picoteo restaurant), which are perfect for people watching, or the Plaza de la Constitution.
Fuengirola Bars: Where to Go?
You will find the highest concentration of bars, pubs and nightclubs right after the Sould Park or the Fuengirola Marina. On the main road, you will find a number of them, and there are a few on the side of the marina facing the parking lot, although not great quality.
As you continue walking in the direction of Sohail Castle, you will hit the ‘Fish Alley‘ which is a 1km street lined with bars and restaurants, so you will get plenty of options there. At the end of it, if you turn right and continue up the road, you will hit the small square with the post office building with lots of tapas bars and restaurants to choose from. After that, you can get lost in the narrow streets of the old town and find new local establishments along your way.
Calle Francisco Cano in Los Boliches is another great place to walk and find lots of nice smaller bars.
For those who want to venture towards the other side of Fuengirola (in the direction of Carvajal), most of the bars and establishments and scattered around the Paseo Maritimo.
Fuengirola Bars: A Word of Warning
I can’t finish this post without saying a few words about safety and drugs – it’s something that’s a big problem in Fuengirola.
From the last couple of years, I personally know two stories that involve drinks getting spiked while in a bar, in two different locations. These were also girls in two different age groups, very close to me. One of them ended up in a hospital, with local police present – nobody should go through that after going out to have some fun!
If you’re heading out as a party of girls, especially young ones, you need to be extremely careful who you engage with, and whether or not you should trust a complete stranger.
Always make sure you can see your drink, ideally, hold it in your hand the whole time, don’t let a stranger buy you a drink without seeing it poured into the glass by the waiter. If you’re leaving for the toilet, let your friend watch your drink. Have your belongings with you at all times. Always tell your friends where you’re going if you’re leaving the group.
Do not walk alone at night in small streets, always have someone walk with you. Muggings are another issue that’s pretty common, especially in crowded streets full of bars.

The list below is by no means exhausting account of all the bars in the city, but more of a selection of those that I see frequently and seem quite popular.
Fuengirola Traditional Bars
- Chaplin Bar Fuengirola – fairly new addition to the street, cozy bar with nice view. Open till 4am. Address: P.º Marítimo Rey de España, 36
- The Old Town – I have visited this one myself a number of times, its quite a large place with cosy pub like decor and good service. Bonus point – toilets disguised behind a secret door in the ‘library’ room. Open till 4am. Address: P.º Marítimo Rey de España
- Sunset Boulevard International Sports Bar – open till 12am, specializing in streaming sports events. Address – P.º Marítimo Rey de España, 36, Local 3 y 4
- Bar Aperitivos – newly opened establishment, open till 2am. Address – C. Francisco Cano, 11
- Caribbean Bar – close to Carvajal direction, elevated terrace so you get nice views. Cool and unique place. Address – P.º Marítimo Rey de España, 134
Fuengirola British Pubs
- The Old London – traditional British pub, quite small space inside and a tiny terrace outside. Open till 1am. Address – Edificio Albamar,, P.º Marítimo Rey de España, 22.
- The Nag’s Head – popular with local expats. Address: C. Juan Sebastián Elcano, 2
- POGS The Old Irish Pub – I’ve been here couple of time, a great place for a drink, walking distance to the beach. Open till 4am. Address – C. Lamo de Espinosa, 7, 29640
- The Dog with Two Heads – another popular local hotspot, says open 24 hours a day. Address – C. Francisco Cano, local 5
- Tom’s Irish Bar – on a small busy streets, popular by locals and tourists. Address – C. Poeta Salvador Rueda, 65
- The Wessex Bar – on Paseo Maritimo with good views, closes before midnight. Address – P.º Marítimo Rey de España, 102
- Fibbers Irish Bar – been here a number of times, they have a new location with much bigger space and lovely decor. Address – P.º Marítimo Rey de España
