Your Options For a Malaga To Ronda Day Trip

There are three ways you can reach Ronda on a day trip from Malaga – by using a local travel company with an organised bus tour, driving there with your rental car or using public transport.

In most cases, using the local travel company and booking the day trip online will be the most time and cost-effective option available, especially if you don’t want the extra hassle of having to drive a car while on holiday.

Below you will find a detailed breakdown for each option so that you can make an informed decision.

Option 1: Malaga To Ronda Day Trip with Local Travel Company

This is a very affordable way to see Ronda on a day trip, without having to rent and drive a car.

The company offers a convenient pick-up location in the center of Malaga, and you can upgrade the trip by adding a walking tour guide through Ronda. As a bonus point, you get to see two beautiful places in just one trip – Ronda, and then Setenil de las Bodegas, which is a unique Andalusian white town where homes have been carved into a massive rock formation. It’s certainly a place you won’t forget – you can check my photos from there below and more here.

Best of all – there is no obligation or risk involved, you can book now and pay later, and you have the option to cancel up to 24 hours before the trip. Check the availability dates from the calendar in the link below.

Option 2: Malaga To Ronda Day Trip with Rental Car

If you already rented a car for your stay in Malaga or planning to do so, driving to Ronda is certainly a convenient option. The distance between the cities is just over 100 km, which should take you about 1.5 hours to drive.

Keep in mind some of the roads may be toll roads, so keep some cash in the car for this case, and check parking options in Ronda in advance, so you don’t have to stress about finding convenient parking and wasting time when already there.

Once you’re in Ronda, you can explore on your own, or alternatively, you can book an independent tour guide for the day in advance online here.

Option 3: Malaga To Ronda Day Trip with Public Transport

I would advise against using public transport for this day trip, as its nearly impossible to find connections that would make this trip convenient and fast enough to leave you time for exploring.

If you want to get from Malaga to Ronda, there are direct buses from the main station in Malaga, with tickets starting at 13 euros per person and 3 connections per day. The journey takes between 2hrs 40 mins up to 3 hours, depending on the connection. Not suitable for those who get travel sick as its passing through the serpentine roads in the mountains.

The other option is the train, which has even more limited connections. There is only one train connection leaving Malaga Maria Zambrano at 9.10 am with tickets starting at 11.90 euros one way. The journey takes nearly 2 hours.

Option 4: Malaga To Ronda Day Trip by Taxi

Another convenient, although quite expensive option is to book a taxi or uber to get to Ronda.

According to quotes online, this option would cost you between 100 to 150 euros, depending on your travel destination, pick up time, and type of car used.

Good To Know Before Booking Your Day Trip

  • Comfortable shoes are a must when visiting Ronda
  • The road to Ronda may lead through serpentine roads in the mountains, so if you struggle with travel sickness I would recommend taking some travel medicine with you
  • Take water with you, especially if you’re travelling in the summer
  • Ronda is located 740 meters (2500 feet) above sea level, so it is much cooler than the coast, especially in fall and winter. In the summer, on the other hand, it will be very hot!
  • I would not recommend this trip for very young kids, as they might struggle with the bus journey
