Is This Day Tour Already Sold Out?
The trip to Cadiz is very popular, so in case you already checked the recommended tour and it’s not available on the dates you would like to travel, here is another option you could consider:
- There is another tour organized by a different company, which also includes a trip to Jerez de la Frontera (about half way on the way to Cadiz). You can check out the details here.
- If none of those options are available anymore, you can still get to Cadiz using one of the alternative transport options, and book your activities independently. I have added my recommendations for your one day itinerary at the end of the post.
2. Driving with a Rental Car
If you’re traveling from Seville to Cadiz by car, the journey will take between 1hr 15 mins to 1hr 30 mins, depending on the route.
The best routes are as follows:
- via E-5 – shortest and fastest, distance of 120 kilometers and estimated journey duration (from google maps) is 1hr 15 minutes
- via E-5 and A-4 – total distance of 121 kilometers and estimated journey time of 1hr 20 minutes
- via E-5, A-471 and A-4 – total distance 126 kilometers and journey time of 1.5 hours.

Although some highways in Spain have toll duty, I have not seen any warning about tolls for the routes suggested above.

3. Train from Seville to Cadiz for Day Trip
The trains from Seville to Cadiz run fairly regularly and the tickets are very affordable – I got mine just for a few euros when booked a couple of days in advance.
The trains to Cadiz leave from Sevilla Santa Justa station, and you can check the prices and exact timetable via the website linked below.
The trains run almost every hour, and on quick glance on most days, there are around 10 train connections available. The travel time is between 1.5 hours to 1hr 45 minutes
It’s best to buy your tickets online as you can also choose your seats, and save them on your phone. At the station, you only need to show the QR code and have your ID with you when you travel.
The trains themselves are fairly modern, spacious, and comfortable, equipped with toilets and plenty of storage space for luggage. The train stops are also announced in English.
When you get off at either end, there is a taxi rank in both Cadiz and Seville train stations.
4. Seville to Cadiz Day Trip by Bus
When I was researching the bus options, it was almost impossible to find a direct bus route, but it seems like one exists.
The bus route is operated by a company called Comes and the journey takes 1hr 45 minutes. As is the case with buses, they don’t run nearly as often as the trains. Return tickets are under 30 euros per person.
The other option I found was getting to Jerez de la Frontera (worth a day trip itself!) and then getting a connecting bus from there. May be better suited for those who want to spend at least one night in Cadiz and see something else along the way.

5. Private Transport from Seville to Cadiz
If you’re looking for a convenient way to get to Cadiz, preferably by private transport, this might be the best option for you.
I have used Get Transfer service couple of times before, and they are great for long-distance trips, giving you a much better price than you would get from a standard taxi.

If you’re on a tight budget and don’t want to rent a car, carpooling is a very cost-effective way to commute, especially longer distances.

1. Cadiz Cathedral
The cathedral is one of the main tourist hotspots in the city, and as you would expect, predictably crowded.
It’s located close to the old town and the main coastal road, with a large plaza filled with restaurants right in front of it.
The plaza is full of life with groups of tourists stopping to hear a lecture about the cathedral, locals rushing past and people taking photos.
If you only pop to the plaza for a coffee with breakfast, and to admire the view from outside, it’s still well worth it.
2. Explore Cadiz Old Town
If you want to experience the charm of this ancient city, the old town is the perfect place to explore.
You can get there simply by wandering off to the small narrow alleyways from the main plaza in front of the cathedral.
A word of warning: it gets very busy!
It’s utterly charming but also very stressful to navigate if you’re visiting at the height of the season.
The old town is a bit similar to what you see in Malaga old town, only the streets are more narrow and the buildings even older and more impressive.
Some parts feel like they’re crumbling down and look neglected, but it adds to the less touristy feel of the city, compared to other places on Costa del Sol.
There is an old traditional market in the old town that’s also worth checking out.
3. Coastal Promenade and La Caleta Beach
From the old town, head back towards the coastline and walk in the direction of Castillo de Santa Catalina. On the way, you will pass one of the most famous beaches in Cadiz – La Caleta Beach.
You can recognize it quickly by the old white building that’s at the end of it – it reminds me a bit of Brighton in the UK. The promenade is a beautiful place to take a stroll and enjoy the views.
4. Castillo de Santa Catalina
This old castle looks like an old Alcazar, with old crumbling walls and observation towers remaining, and a few buildings in the central courtyard. It’s nearly invisible from the main road, as you only see some old damaged walls.
The sand washed walls provide a beautiful contrast with the deep blue colour of the sea, while the courtyard feels like cut out of some western cowboy movie. There is so much space to run around, so if you’re travelling with kids, they will love it!
5. Jardines de Alameda Apodaca
If you’re looking for gorgeous gardens with a view, it doesn’t get better than this!
The Alameda Apodaca Gardens were one of the last places I found in Cadiz and even though it’s a relatively small public park, it makes up for it with its beauty.
At the centre stage is an ancient over 100 years old fig tree, the sheer size of it is breathtaking. The gardens line a coastal promenade with beautiful views and a stunning backdrop.
The park has just a few benches and a very small cafe at the end of it, the perfect place to enjoy a bit of a break from walking and shelter from the sun in the summer.
It’s also a great place to finish your exploration of Cadiz!

Yes, definitely! If you want to get a chance to spend some time by the sea, Cadiz is the perfect choice! It’s fairly close to Seville, and easily accessible by train or car. There is enough to see in Cadiz in one day, or you can just spend the day enjoying the sandy beach of Cadiz while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean.

The average journey time is around 1.5 hours, there are some trains that take longer as they stop more frequently.
Is one day enough in Cadiz?
Yes it is! I have spent one day in Cadiz, and have seen pretty much everything it has to offer. If you arrive in the morning, you have plenty of time to tick off all the highlights without having to rush from one place to the next.
