Airport Near Torremolinos: Where Do You Need to Fly?

Torremolinos airport? Are you wondering where to fly in when you’re travelling to Torremolinos?

Southern Spain has quite a few airports available, and in this article, you will find out what is the nearest airport for Torremolinos, and also how to get from the airport to your hotel or accommodation easily and conveniently.

Let’s dive right in!

Nearest Airport to Torremolinos

The nearest airport for Torremolinos is Malaga Costa del Sol International airport (AGP). It’s only 8 km from the city, so within easy reach by taxi, train or a local bus.

The location of the airport is marked on the map below.

Malaga Costa del Sol International Airport

Malaga airport is a modern international airport connecting the city with destinations in Europe but also domestic flights within Spain and all of the Spanish islands. Up to 80% of the airport traffic is from international flights. It is the fourth busiest airport in the country, after Madrid, Barcelona and Mallorca.

At the arrivals, you will find easy access to a big taxi rank, a frequent train service towards Fuengirola and Malaga, and easy connections to and from Malaga city.

The airport has lots of cafes, restaurants, duty-free shops and all the facilities you would expect from a modern airport.

Malaga airport is the main travel hub for airlines like Easyjet, Ryanair, Vueling and Norwegian Airlines.

Considering how busy and popular this airport is, it is by no means a huge airport. When more arrivals are scheduled around the same time, the area around the boarding gates can get very crowded.

If you’re travelling back to the airport, especially in the summer months, give yourself some extra time to go through the security and get to your gate as the airport gets very busy.

How Far is Torremolinos from Malaga Airport?

The distance between Malaga airport and Torremolinos is about 8 kilometres.

How Much is Taxi from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos?

There is a taxi rank right outside of the airport arrivals. Once you leave the main building, turn to your right and walk to the end of the building. In there you will see lots of taxis parked outside.

If you’re arriving very late or early in the morning, there should be still taxis available as they wait there for the plane’s arrival.

Taxi from the airport (the one from the arrivals) will cost around 20 euros, based on 1 to 4 people sharing the car. The journey is around 10 to 15 minutes, so it’s very close.

Is there a Train from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos?

Yes, there is a direct train from Malaga airport to Torremolinos.

The train connection between Malaga airport and Torremolinos is serviced by the C-1 commuter train from Fuengirola, one that I’m very familiar with. I’ve been using the train for a few years now, having lived in Fuengirola and making regular trips towards Malaga.

When you get out of the main airport building at arrival, head straight down the road following the signs for the train stop. The train station is at the far back, behind the parking lot.

You will take the escalators down and you get right to the platform, make sure you’re taking the train in the direction of Fuengirola, not Malaga.

There are ticket machines by the entrance, select a day ticket and find Torremolinos in the list. The tickets should cost just a few euros per person. You can pay by card or cash.

The machine will give you a printed ticket with a QR code that you scan at the gates. Some stations do not have gates, so don’t be surprised by that (Torreblanca for example).

The trains run every 20 minutes or so, and the journey takes 10 minutes.

The train stops at the following stations:

Plaza Mayor

Los Alamos

La Colina

Torremolinos

The first trains leave around 5.30am and the last ones before midnight, at 23.40pm. Please be careful where you check the timetables for these train connections as they are almost always not accurate. The best way is to check the renfe website and their timetable here.
