What You Should Know About Torreblanca, Fuengirola
One of the tricks you will see used in holiday home listings is something like this: ‘beach only 500 meters away’. That may well be true if you draw a line through the air, however, it’s not really the full picture.
Torreblanca is a district within Fuengirola sharing its borders, and beach promenade, with Carvajal and Los Boliches (where I live). This district is pretty unique, as it’s mostly spread out in the hills and it’s not very big.
That means that if the apartment listing says that the beach is 500 meters away, it is very likely it will involve a steep uphill climb each time you’re coming back from the beach.
Also, unless you get an apartment on the promenade (Paseo Maritimo), or the building right behind it, you will have to cross a big road to get to the beachside.
Of course, that’s not a deal breaker, but it’s good to make informed choices!

Practical Tips for Booking a Holiday Apartment in Torreblanca, Fuengirola
In addition to what I said earlier about the area of Torreblanca, here are some practical local tips for booking an apartment in Fuengirola.
Airconditioning
Most apartments have air conditioning units in all rooms, including bedrooms, but it’s not the rule for all. It’s worth double-checking that the place you’re looking to book has one unit in the bedroom.
Because believe me, sleeping when it’s still over 30C is no fun.
Another important thing: some homeowners may install timers on their units, to minimize the electric bill. That means that your cooling may cut off after two hours, and you might have to get up during the night and put it back on.
There is no way to know whether this is the case with the place you’re looking to book, other than reviewing the reviews from other guests (because surely at least one person got annoyed by it).
Noise Levels
I think this is pretty unheard of in the rest of Europe, but the properties in Fuengirola have zero insulation on the windows or doors. That means that there is quite a bit of noise pollution, especially in the summer months.
If you’re staying in an apartment on the main coastal road (Paseo Maritimo), you will likely notice it the most. The other wild card is having a holiday apartment next to you (very common!) and noisy neighbours who decide to party all night.
Drinking Water
This topic is still subject to speculation, but locals don’t like to drink water from the tap. Not that there is something wrong with it (officially), but I think people got so used to tasting water from the bottles, that it’s hard for them to imagine drinking water from the tap.
You can decide for yourself whether you’re happy with the water quality or prefer to buy a big bottle from the shop.
