What to Wear in Benalmádena in April 2024: Local’s Guide

Are you planning a trip to Costa del Sol and wondering what to wear in Benalmádena in April?

In that case, you’re at the right place!

I am a local resident of Costa del Sol and have been living next to Benalmádena since 2020, so I’m very familiar with the weather conditions and what to expect.

In short, the weather in April is pretty unpredictable, and if you’re visiting Benalmadena around Easter time, there is a spell of cold weather front coming to the coastline. Pack a mix of different layers so you don’t get surprised with colder or rainy days, but for the most part, it should be warm and pleasant.

So, let’s break it down together and make sure you’re all set to enjoy everything Benalmádena has to offer in April, all while looking fabulous, of course!

Benalmádena Weather in April

First off, a quick weather check: April in Benalmádena is pretty mild, but it’s a bit of a transition month.

You can expect daytime temperatures to hover around 18°C to 22°C (that’s about 64°F to 72°F).

Nights can still be a bit cool, dipping down to 11°C or 12°C (about 52°F to 54°F). And, while it’s generally sunny, April can throw in a surprise shower or two.

During the day, if you’re in the sun, you will be pretty warm and happy with a T-shirt or a dress, but in the evenings, the temperatures dip down as soon as the sun sets.

Early mornings are also pretty cold and a jacket will come in handy.

Bonus Tip:

The weather in spring changes quickly, so you shouldn’t pack a month in advance. Check the weather a few days before you arrive to update your packing list accordingly.

What to Wear in Benalmádena in April

Daytime Outfits

For those sunny day strolls around the marina or a lazy afternoon on the beaches of Benalmádena, think comfy and casual, but with a stylish edge.

You will be fine with a dress and cardigan on the top, for guys shorts and a polo shirt is a good option. Carry a light jacket with you in case you’re planning to spend all day outdoors.

Comfy shoes are a must if you’re planning to explore, and for April weather it’s best to pack closed toe shoes and leave your sandals at home.

Evening Outfits

Evenings can get a bit nippy, so this is where layering becomes your best friend.

A stylish, lightweight jacket or a chic wrap can keep the chill at bay while you’re enjoying those delicious Spanish dinners or a casual stroll along the coastal promenade.

You don’t need a very warm jacket, a spring jacket that you can zip up or a warm sweater will be a good option.

Hiking and Outdoor Activities

If you’re planning to explore the great outdoors, venturing out to the nature or hikes near Benalmadena would require a few extra layers – you should bring weatherproof hiking jacket and your hiking backpack too.

Good quality shoes are a must because the paths are full of rocks and can be rather slipper.

If you’re thinking about visiting Caminito del Rey, standard trainers and a jacket are fine, you don’t need special hiking equipment.

Beach Days

I’ve seen plenty of people enjoying beach days as early as beginning of March, so if you’re planning to spend some time near the sea, a bathing suit should travel with you.

Most hotels will provide beach towels, so you don’t need to bring one from home, and if you’re staying in a rented apartment, you will have beach towels normally provided too – sometimes they also have foldable beach chairs available.

Also keep in mind that if you want to book a boat trip, it will be very windy so you will need a proper jacket (even on sunny days!).

Packing List for April in Benalmadena

  • Light Layers: a few options for lighter and thicker cardigans that you can layer on during the day
  • Long Pants: both for men and ladies, having a pair of long pants or jeans would be a good option for evening strolls and casual dining
  • Dresses for Ladies: some days are warmer than others and if you want to enjoy them properly, add one or two summer dresses to your suitcase.
  • Light Scarf or Pashmina: Great for layering when it gets cool and doubles as a wrap on breezier beach days.
  • Compact Umbrella or Rain Jacket: For those unexpected April showers. It’s better to be prepared, so you can keep exploring without a hitch.
  • Ligh Jacket: for the cold mornings and evenings, take one you can easily store in your handbag.
  • Sunscreen: The sun in Spain can be quite strong, even in April, so do not leave the sunblock at home
  • Closed Toe Shoes: as I mentioned due to a chance of rain, simple trainers will be the best option
  • Slippers for the Apartment: if you’re staying in an apartment, they tend to have very cold floors and no carpets, so a pair of slippers will be very appreciated. You can also get these in the small kiosks for a few euros.

Packing Tips

  • Roll, Don’t Fold: Save space and prevent wrinkles by rolling your clothes. It’s a game-changer.
  • Pack Multi-Use Items: Choose items that can be mixed and matched or dressed up and down.
  • Pack Neutral Color Clothing: It is much easier to match your clothing and create a beautiful outfit if you mostly have neutral colors in your wardrobe.
  • Leave Space for Souvenirs: Benalmádena has some wonderful local markets and shops. Make sure you have room to bring back a piece of your adventure.

Shopping in Benalmadena

Left something behind?

Don’t worry, you won’t be completely stranded! There are two big shopping malls close to Benalmadena, and plenty of local boutiques and small shops scattered around the coastline and Benalmadena Pueblo.

To get the most shopping options, you can head over to Plaza Mayor, a huge shopping area just outside of Benalmadena – you can access it easily by using the local C-1 train towards Malaga, and getting off at Plaza Mayor stop.

The other option is heading towards Fuengirola (where I live), there is a huge Miramar Shopping center with lots of brand and options, and lots of clothing stores also outside of the shopping mall. Similar to before, you can get there using the C-1 train line and getting off at the last stop at Fuengirola main station.

The trains run from Arroyo de la Miel, which is the upper part of Benalmadena.
