The Hunt for the Perfect Pool Hotel

When you’re searching for Fuengirola hotels, you will notice almost all of them have an outdoor swimming pool. That’s because the main season on Costa del Sol is in the summer, so you get most of the use for the outdoor pool.

Indoor pools are a standard for hotels that have spa facilities, as almost each of the ones on this list. In most cases, the indoor pools are also heated.

The only thing you should beware of is the size – not all of them are full-length pools and the cheaper budget hotels tend to have much smaller indoor pools.

Practical Tips For Fuengirola Hotels with Indoor Pools

Here are some things you should consider before choosing your hotel:

  • many smaller and low budget hotels are closed during the winter season, so your options might be limited
  • check the size of the indoor pool in pictures before booking – many hotels have these pools are part of their spa service, and they will be only good enough for a quick dip, and not to swim any considerable distance
  • if you’re driving with a rental car, check whether the parking is free. If not, normally the hotel rates are much more expensive compared to public parking available nearly.
  • if you’re traveling with small kids, you’ve got plenty of options to keep them entertained in Fuengirola, even in the winter season (check my tips here)

Why Choose a Hotel with an Indoor Pool?

An indoor pool may not be the first amenity you think of when you imagine the perfect Costa del Sol hotel, but it’s an important one.

If you’re considering planning an off-season trip to avoid the crowds, save some money, and experience coastal Spain from a different angle, you might miss out on swimming in the Mediterranean. Sea temperatures drops steadily as winter approaches, and it may just be too chilly to enjoy the water.

Indoor pools are often temperature-regulated and offer an opportunity to take a dip in a warm environment. A heated indoor pool makes a great end to a cool day spent exploring outdoors.

It’s no secret that swimming is good for your health; spending some time in an indoor pool each morning or evening can help you relax and get ready for another busy day.

What to Consider Before Booking

As with any Spanish hotspot, Fuengirola’s hotel rates depend on the season. The peak season generally lasts from June to August, and prices are bound to be highest then. Spring and Autumn may offer a drop in prices, but still see plenty of travelers as these months tend to have pleasant weather.

Winter is the low season on Costa del Sol, and prices will likely drop along with the temperatures. However, winters on the Costa del Sol are quite mild, so you’ll still be able to spend plenty of time exploring outdoors. Plus, the added benefit of a heated indoor pool gives you plenty to look forward to after a long day outdoors.

Be sure to pay attention to other pool details based on your needs. For example, if you are a disabled traveler, you may need to call ahead to check pool accessibility options.

If you are traveling with small children, you may want to call to see if there are any age restrictions, or if the hotel offers a child-friendly swimming option.

No matter what time of year you choose to visit Fuengirola, the town offers respite from the crowds of Malaga without having to venture too far from busy hubs.

Like Benalmadena, Fuengirola is a popular beach destination with fast-paced summers and a mellow off- season. There are plenty of hotels to choose from in the area, but settling on one with an indoor pool gives you the most options when it comes to enjoying the water.

Closest Airport to Fuengirola

The nearest airport to Fuengirola is Málaga airport.

Getting to the Hotel from Malaga Airport

While some of the high-end hotels offer a shuttle from the airport, this will not be complimentary and you will have to pay extra.

In my experience, they tend to be more expensive as the hotel charges an extra fee to book this service for you. Here are your options on how to get to your hotel from Malaga Airport.

1. Train: C-1 Line between Fuengirola – Malaga Centro

The train is probably the quickest, easiest, and most budget-friendly way to get to Fuengirola. Once you’re out of baggage claim, just follow the signs to the train station. It’s located right at Terminal T3. You can’t miss it!

  • Fare: About €2.70 per person one-way.
  • Duration: Around 30 minutes.
  • Schedule: Trains run every 20 minutes or so.

2. Bus

There are various bus services, but the one you’d be looking at is the M-220 Málaga-Marbella line that stops at Fuengirola. The bus station is located just outside the arrivals area.

  • Fare: Around €4-€5 per person one-way.
  • Duration: 40-50 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Schedule: Buses are less frequent than trains, so check the schedule.

 3. Taxi or Private Transfer

If you’re looking for a door-to-door service, or you’ve got loads of luggage, then a taxi or a private transfer might be your jam.

  • Fare: Around €30-€40 one-way.
  • Duration: Approximately 25-30 minutes.
  • Schedule: Available 24/7.

4. Car Rental

Car rentals are great if you’re planning to explore the area more. Companies are available right at the airport but you can get the best deals if you use price comparison platforms like Discover Cars.

  • Fare: Varies by company and type of car.
  • Duration: However long you take to drive about 25 km!
  • Schedule: You’re the boss!
