Summers in Benalmadena are often scorching hot. Much of the time in the summer is best spent cooling off by the hotel pool or beach, both of which get pretty crowded.

As summer turns into autumn around the end of September, the temperature in Benalmadena gradually turns cooler. The difference is slight but can feel significantly cooler, especially in the early mornings and late evenings.

The temperature stays warm enough to enjoy the beach, the city, and everything in between.

The only thing you may not be able to do in the fall is swim in the sea. As autumn approaches, the chance of rain in Benalmadena gets higher, though precipitation doesn’t really pick up until November.

What to Expect in Benalmadena in October

Planning a trip is always easier when you have some idea of what to expect weather-wise.

Consider the tips below while choosing when to visit Benalmadena.

Temperature Variations Between Day and Night

Like in most destinations, temperatures in Benalmadena dip at night. Temperatures will be highest at mid-day and then gradually cool as evening approaches.

In October, evenings and nights are guaranteed to be cool enough to need an extra layer. The same goes for early mornings.

The Influence of the Mediterranean Sea on Weather

As you can imagine, the Mediterranean Sea has a significant impact on the weather on the Costa del Sol.

Sea patterns bring plenty of wind to the coast, which includes Benalmadena. This can mean a refreshing breeze in the summertime, or powerful gusts in the colder months.

The seaside climate also means Benalmadena’s autumn and winter can be quite rainy and humid. Benalmadena’s proximity to the sea results in rainier autumn months.

Occasional Storms

As many coastal destinations, the Costa del Sol is vulnerable to damaging storms brought on by its setting and weather patterns.

Storms can happen throughout the year and it’s important to heed storm warnings if you hear them. If there is a large storm in the forecast, you may want to plan your trip around it, as it could be extremely disruptive.

You will likely have to wait out the weather indoors and avoid the beach if a storm descends on Benalmadena while you are there.

Even though an occasional storm may head to the coastline of Benalmadena in October, it’s a rare sight and you’re unlikely to experience it at the beginning or middle of October.

Low Tourism Activity

Benalmadena’s peak tourist season takes place from late May until the beginning of September. During the warm summer months, the region’s beaches, hotels, cities and small towns fill up with tourists from all over the world who are looking to savor the Costa del Sol sun.

After the peak season ends, lodging, activity and restaurant prices decrease steadily, along with the temperature. Visiting in the off season can save you plenty of money and offer more time to yourself as you explore Benalmadena and beyond.

Planning Your Trip to Benalmádena in October

Packing Essentials

When planning a trip to Benalmadena in October, there are a few things to keep in mind as you’re packing your suitcase. There’s a chance it will rain during your trip, so rain gear is a must.

You don’t have to go all out, as October is not the region’s rainiest month, but a compact umbrella and rain jacket might come in handy. A pair of shoes that are somewhat water resistant can be a big help as well.

October still sees plenty of sun, so make sure you’re well-protected when you go to the beach in Benalmadena.

A stinging sunburn is the last thing you want to disrupt the perfect Costa del Sol getaway, so pack sunscreen of SPF 50 or higher, a wide-brim hat and lightweight clothing. Your rain umbrella can also protect you from the sun in a pinch.

There is plenty of hiking around Benalmadena and Malaga, so if you anticipate exploring the region’s landscapes, bring suitable footwear.

A sturdy pair of hiking boots or sneakers should keep you covered in case you want to hit the trails. Even exploring Benalmadena or Malaga’s winding streets can take a toll on your feet, so make sure you pack comfortable walking shoes that will see you through hours of wandering the city.

If you want to bring a bathing suit just in case, it may come in handy, but October is generally too cold to swim in the sea.

Water temperatures in the area range from 59 to 75F in October, or 15 to 23C. However, some hotels have heated pools, so keep that in mind when looking for accommodation!

Be sure to also pack some layers, as evening and morning temperatures can get quite cool in October. A few long sleeve items, sweaters and a light jacket will keep you warm when layered up.

Events in Benalmádena in October 2023

Though Benalmadena’s peak season will be over by October, the city will be busy planning a range of events.

Keep the ones listed below in mind as you plan out your itinerary. Local events are a great way to meet people and learn about Spanish culture.

There are always live music performances going on in and around Benalmadena.

The area also hosts fairs and festivals year round.

This October, you can also visit the nearby Fuengirola Fair (Feria), which is well known in the region as being one fo the best ones. It comes with carousels, rides, horses, carriages and plenty of food, drinks and live music. This year the Feria in Fuengirola is held from 9 to 13 October.

When planning a fall trip to Benalmadena, also keep an eye out for the region’s Fried Fish Fair, Columbus Day festivities, and any Halloween- related events, which may fall on varying dates in October.

Rainy Day Tips

If the weather catches you by surprise, you can make the best of your getaway by improvising your itinerary.

If multiple storm warnings are forecasted over the time frame of your planned trip, it may be best to reschedule. However, if you find yourself experiencing bad weather in Benalmadena, consider the many indoor activities the region has to offer.

Spending a few rainy days in Malaga is a great idea, as the city offers museums, indoor historic sites, restaurants, and shopping destinations. Benalmadena’s beaches are its greatest draw, but when they are unavailable, it’s worthwhile to get to know the Costa Del Sol from a different angle.

If you booked tours or excursions with a local company, be sure to contact them to see if you can reschedule your activity or replace it with an indoor tour.
