Mementomori Restaurant, Granada: My Review

Mementomori Restaurant, Granada: My Review

If you fancy something out of the ordinary when dining in Granada, then this place might tick many boxes!

I first spotted Mementomori on my previous stay in Granada, when I was visiting the Botanical Gardens of the University of Granada, which is right across the street.

I sat down in the restaurant next to it and couldn’t help but notice the quirky-looking dishes and the vibrant interiors inside.

This autumn, I finally managed to pop in for a meal and to test it out myself.

When it comes to trying out restaurants that look like Instagram traps rather than delivering an authentic dining experience, I tend to approach them with caution. While the decor can be a nice complimentary experience in addition to the food, the same cannot always be said of the food itself.

So what was the verdict for this place?

It’s hard to say as I have only had a chance to taste their breakfast menu, even though I have arrived at noon.

I should have known better that it’s silly to expect lunch to be served at noon anywhere in Southern Spain. The breakfast I had with my husband was pretty good, no complaints there, but I was really looking forward to sampling some of their main courses and the vegan options they offer.

The restaurant is right on the corner across from the Botanical Gardens, and they have a small lovely terrace right next to it.

As you enter the restaurant, you feel like Alice in Wonderland, and your senses are overwhelmed with colors and patterns on display everywhere. In the middle of the restaurant, you will see a giant carousel hanging on top of the bar, a big hot air balloon that doubles up as a booth right by the entrance, and a ceiling made out of ‘louds’ that are illuminated by flashes of color.

The restaurant is dressed in bold vibrant colors and crazy patterns, which make you feel like you’ve just entered an adults’ playground. The cocktails and dishes are served in the most spectacular cups & plates, to compliment the whole experience.

While this place receives mixed reviews, I was pretty happy with my visit, and the only way to know if it’s for you is to test it out!
